Chiggers are tiny mites that can cause itchy, red bumps on the skin. If you hang out at Mullet Fest for any time - you're gonna have to deal with these suckers. If you suspect that you have chigger bites, there are several steps you can take to get rid of them:
Take a shower: Take a shower as soon as possible after being in an area where chiggers are present. Use soap and water to wash off any chiggers on your skin. I mean, this is a must after Mullet Fest, anyhow.
Apply an anti-itch cream: Apply an over-the-counter anti-itch cream like calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to the affected area to help reduce itching and inflammation.
Use hot water: Soak in a hot bath or use a hot compress on the affected area for at least 20 minutes to help relieve itching.
Take antihistamines: Over-the-counter antihistamines like Benadryl can help reduce itching and swelling associated with chigger bites.
Wash clothing: Wash all clothing, bedding, and towels that may have come into contact with chiggers in hot water to kill any remaining mites. I mean, you're gonna have to do this, anyhow, but don't leave your stuff in the washers as SOME people do. We all gotta use the facilities, so let's be neighborly, or your stuff is getting thrown on the top of the dryers.
Avoid scratching: Try not to scratch the affected area, as this can lead to infection. Plus, I've seen most of your fingernails, and you all don't clean up right.
Chigger bites usually go away on their own within a week or two. If you experience a severe reaction or if the bites become infected, seek medical attention.
